A late one and a big one
Migration at the Odden: It was cold and windy at the tip this morning. I (Théophile) decided to stand inside the building for shelter. The duck migration was pretty good during the first two hours, with lots of teals, wigeons and mallards. It’s really nice to see them migrating, because in France it’s the most common duck and most people think it’s a local bird that doesn’t migrate. But they're wrong ! Once, in the Jardin des Plantes in the middle of Paris, someone took a photo of a mallard that had been ringed in Russia !
At around 8:30, after seeing a black-throated diver, another diver appeared, a larger bird with big legs, a strong bill, and the typical black-and-white contrast on the neck. It was a Great Northern Diver, the third of the season, a nice one.
Between 8:30 and 9:00, I saw a nice little rush of passerines, with around ten species, including a very late barn swallow and a few minutes later, a snow bunting. A rough-legged buzzard also appeared; it was the first I had seen in a few days.

Between 9 am and 11 am, the ducks continued to migrate in large flocks of wigeons, red-breasted mergansers, common scoters and a few whooper swans.

The last hour was very slow, but at least, I enjoyed the sunshine.
Tomorrow, we will be with Ole at the tip, hoping for some smew !
