Special guests
Ringing: Today, we had a few special guests making their first appearance of the year in the garden. Firstly, a goldcrest (Fuglekonge) made it’s way into our garden and was captured and ringed shortly after. Later on in the morning, a small family flock of 4 long-tailed tits (Halemejse) were captured, ringed and subsequently released all at once. Overall, it’s been a productive day of ringing at the station, 34 birds were captured with 28 of which being new captures.

Trækket på Odden: Despite all odds, this morning was a cloudy one. And with the clouds came nothing… We observed barely a thousand birds, more than half of which being passerines spotted by experienced eyes and experienced ears. Only a few birds flew over our heads, and among them we almost missed this unexpected sighting of a Short-eared Owl (Mosehornugle) flying south. The calm sea also had some nice surprises in store for us throughout the morning, with the close appearance of a grey seal (Gråsæl) and a common seal (Spættet sæland), twice each.
