Regn, hagl og alt for hård vind

onsdag 25. marts 2026

Ringmærkningen: Ingen ringmærkning på grund af regn og hård vind.

Trækket på Odden: Unfortunately for the migration counters at the station, good things never last. Over the last week, we have enjoyed several busy days of counting out on the point whilst enjoying the sunny weather and mild breezes. Today, however, didn’t live up to those standards. The sunny, clear skies were replaced with dark clouds, rough winds, rain and hail. Not only did this result in cold noses for us, but it also greatly reduced the visibility at the point.

Just like how we didn’t enjoy the conditions today, the birds also seemed unamused, and this was made apparent by a big drop in migratory activity. The morning started off slow and activity never really picked up afterwards. Not only were less flocks spotted, the flocks that were spotted were also generally smaller than the ones we’ve seen over the last few days.

Given the harsh conditions and the limited migratory activity, we decided to call it a day at the 3 hour mark. In total, 1125 individual birds and 9 different species were counted today, the bulk of which were once again made up by Eiders (Ederfugl)

One positive takeaway from this morning was the sighting of 5 red-throated loons (rødstrubet lom). It has been a while since the last one was spotted, so it was nice to see them again, we hope many more will follow.
