A lot of Green in Gedser !
Ringmærkningen : Luckily, we got no rain today so we could do the standard ringing. The first new bird of the day was a female Greenfinch (Grønirisk) that I got to ring so I can add a new species on my list. It has been a few days now that I've been doing the rounds with Henrik, and despite the low number of birds I still get to ring a bit. I've been wanting to try ringing for a long time, so I am now really happy to experience another part of the work we do here at the station !

After a few empty rounds, Henrik started worrying that he wouldn't be able to ring any birds today. We eventually evened out with two ringed birds each, the latest being the most impressive : a Greenish Warbler (Lundsanger) got caught in the nets on the last round, as we were closing them. This is only the fifth record for the station, the last one being from 12 years ago ! It was a really exciting moment for everyone.

Even though it can look a lot like a Chiffchaff, the Greenish warbler can be recognized thanks to its light eyebrow going almost all the way to the back of the neck. A discrete band can also slightly be seen on the wings. This rare bird turned all the local birders into paparazzi, with Henrik only being the support for the real star. Pictures by Cyann Ménard/GFU.
