After going for a round to look at the conditions of the nets, all of us ringers quickly realised that there was no safe way to open any of the nets and therefore decided to switch to our favorite activity instead: Data check! Marek decided to join the observation team in the wind, so Hannah and myself (Lua) made some lovely breakfast, strong coffee and got to work! After a few hours of computer work and observations in strong weather, we all needed a little bit of fun and energy, so Tina and Mads came by the station with some amazing cake and afterwards gave us a lift to the event of the week in Gedser: Live musik at the Røgeri!

We went for dinner by the harbour and afterwards actually got to have a little dance line to the beautiful tunes of danish country musik! Image 1: Dancing in Gedser !

When it was finally time to return home, instead of a sunset, we got the most incredible moon rise right above the station and therefore ended this interesting day in amazement!

After a few months of focusing extensively on my master thesis, I (Cyann) am now done with it and could eventually find some time to do the migration counting one last weekend before leaving Gedser. It was a great pleasure to be back at the point, enjoy the sunrise and the good company.

I have been told that many ducks were migrating lately, but today seemed not to be their day. Instead, we got impressive numbers of Swallows (Svale) and of Wagtails (Vipstjert), both over a thousand ! It was also a lovely day for raptors, with some beautiful Harriers (Rørhøg & Blå kærhøg) of different age and sex, as well as many Sparrowhawks (Spurvehøg). We also got lucky with the waders, with some Turnstones (Stenvender) and grey Plovers (Strandhjejle) coming quite close to the shore, allowing us to admire their amazing plumage and wing patterns.

We don't have Ole's camera with us this weekend, so no migrating birds but this lovely Eider, enjoying the waves and posing for the camera. Picture by Storm.

On an other note, it is soon time for me to head back to France and say goodbye to this place that has been my home for the past six months. I am currently enjoying my last days here as much as possible. I am extremelly grateful for all the people I've met, the friendships I've made, and the for all the birding experience I've had. I haven’t even left yet, and I’m already looking forward to coming back!
