Ringmærkningen:

Trækket på Odden: Whilst the sun made a wonderful appearance this morning (it was yet again another wonderful sunrise), the birds weren’t as enthusiastic. We only counted just over 2.000 individuals, but luckily had great company with Mads, Morten, Pelle and Oliver joining in from the start.

We were met with a mixture of Eurasian wigeons (Mareca penelope), Common eiders (Somateria mollissima, yet again in second place) and Common scoters (Melanitta nigra). What was far more interesting was therefore not what was migrating over the sea, but behind our backs over the land. Here, over 60 Eurasian sparrowhawks (Accipiter nisus) appeared and 25 Red kites (Milvus milvus) followed in second place among the raptures. The kites were out in big groups, which was amazing to see!

Morten had seen a Black kite on his way out to Gedser Odde, but sadly no luck on our side. Instead we were rewarded with a wonderful White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla). It did not migrate but instead landed in a nearby tree and kept watch over us, before heading back after being bothered by a local Common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) and some sparrowhawks.

We were lucky that the White-tailed eagle landed in a nearby tree for a few minutes. From there, we could spend a little more time taking in its beauty!

A Merlin (Falco columbarius) and a Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) with some prey in its talons followed shortly after, concluding the day!
